About The Position

This position supports approximately 500 employees across Arizona, processes payroll exclusively for Arizona operations, and helps maintain the financial integrity that allows Edkey to keep its focus on students. As the Payroll Administrator, we expect full compliance with state and federal payroll requirements, including the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), and serves as an essential bridge between Payroll, HR, and Accounting. Ideally, the candidate will be detail oriented, analytical, have superior critical thinking skills, and a financial steward.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-site or charter school environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of Arizona payroll laws, including ASRS administration and reporting.
  • Experience with UKG or similar enterprise-level payroll systems.
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills; ability to create and interpret payroll reports.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Commitment to accuracy, details and confidentiality.
  • Current IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card, or ability to obtain quickly

Responsibilities

  • Full ownership to process semi-monthly payroll across multiple Arizona locations, including but not limited to stipends, retro, off-cycle adjustments when needed.
  • Validate timekeeping data, pay rates, employee status changes, and all applicable deductions.
  • Maintain accurate payroll and employee compensation records, update for new hires, terminates, and changes.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and Arizona payroll laws, including IRS, AZDOR, DES, and local requirements.
  • Administer and reconcile ASRS contributions, including semi-monthly reporting, payment submission, corrections, and employer reconciliation.
  • Review and file quarterly and annual payroll tax reports, W-2s, and related filings.
  • Maintain internal audit controls to ensure payroll accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as the liaison between Payroll and Accounting to ensure accurate general ledger (GL) mapping and reconciliation.
  • Prepare and analyze labor burden reports and assist with allocations to grants, specific site personnel, and/or restricted funding sources.
  • Utilize and maintain UKG (UltiPro/Kronos) payroll/HRIS system to process payroll and generate reports.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and automation in payroll workflows, SOPs and process.
  • Employee resource to respond to payroll related questions.
