About The Position

Our client is a UK-licensed acquiring institution and a principal member of Visa and Mastercard. The company operates as a fast-growing payments scale-up, providing card acquiring services to merchants across various risk tiers. As the business expands, the organisation is strengthening its compliance and AML framework to support further operational growth and regulatory requirements. Role Overview This role is fully operational and focused on day-to-day payment activities. The Payment Operations Specialist will review merchant applications, perform first-level compliance checks, support onboarding and gateway setup, and manage ongoing payment operations. Over time, the role is expected to grow into a Team Lead position, taking ownership of processes and supporting junior specialists as the operations team scales.

Requirements

  • 1–3+ years of experience in payment operations, merchant onboarding, or fintech operations.
  • Hands-on experience with payment gateways and transaction monitoring.
  • Understanding of KYC/KYB, AML, and first-line compliance processes.
  • Experience with chargebacks, reconciliation, or settlement operations.
  • Upper-Intermediate English or higher.
  • Strong attention to detail and operational discipline.
  • Structured and analytical approach to daily tasks.
  • Ability to manage multiple processes in parallel.
  • Clear and professional communication style.
  • Reliability and consistency in execution.
  • Motivation to grow into a team coordination or leadership role.

Responsibilities

  • Review merchant applications and check data accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform first-level KYC/KYB and compliance checks before escalation to Risk and Compliance teams.
  • Set up merchant accounts in the payment gateway and support go-live activities.
  • Monitor daily transactions, investigate errors and declines, and review operational activity.
  • Handle chargebacks, assist with reconciliation, and support settlement-related tasks.
  • Perform basic underwriting and operational risk assessment for new merchants.
  • Communicate with internal teams and support smooth ongoing payment operations (the role involves communication with international clients).
