York’s complete Space Segment Solution includes spacecraft production, payload integration, system integration & test, launch services, ground segment services, and mission operations, enabling customers to leverage York’s existing technology solutions to get to orbit rapidly and responsively. We’re looking to expand our team across the board. York is seeking a Payload Systems Engineer to contribute to the development, integration, verification, and operation of spacecraft payloads across diverse missions. In this role, you will help translate mission objectives into technical requirements, define critical payload interfaces, and solve system-level challenges spanning hardware, software, and operations. We’re looking for engineers with strong fundamentals, technical curiosity, and a drive to take ownership of their work. Ideal candidates enjoy learning new technologies, collaborating across disciplines, and delivering reliable mission capabilities. This role will be fully on-site in our Greenwood Village, Colorado office.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 2+ years of relevant engineering experience in aerospace, electronics, software, telecommunications, robotics, or other complex technical systems.
- Strong technical fundamentals in at least one engineering discipline with the ability to learn quickly across disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex systems, solve technical problems, and communicate engineering decisions clearly.
- Experience applying engineering principles through design, analysis, integration, testing, or troubleshooting.
- Initiative, accountability, and the ability to independently drive technical work to completion.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Willingness and eligibility to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
- Willingness to work full-time in office in Greenwood Village, CO.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with systems engineering, requirements development, interface definition, or verification.
- Hands-on experience integrating or testing complex hardware and software systems.
- Familiarity with spacecraft systems, sensors, communications, embedded systems, or computer networks.
- Experience coordinating technical activities with suppliers or multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Proficiency with scripting languages, automation tools, or engineering analysis software.
- Candidates are not expected to have experience with every technology listed. We welcome engineers from diverse technical backgrounds who demonstrate strong fundamentals, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering complex systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead assigned payload systems engineering efforts across requirements development, design, integration, verification, and mission operations.
- Develop and maintain payload requirements, system architectures, interface control documents, and verification plans.
- Define and manage interfaces between payloads, spacecraft subsystems, flight software, and ground systems.
- Assess payload performance, compatibility, and technical risks in support of spacecraft and mission objectives.
- Collaborate with payload suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams to resolve design, integration, and performance issues.
- Author and execute test procedures, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, and document verification results.
- Support spacecraft integration, on-orbit commissioning, and operational anomaly resolution.
- Recommend and implement engineering process improvements, reusable interface standards, and system-level efficiencies.
