About The Position

The Pavilion Recreation Facility Shift Lead is responsible for leading and directing staff, programs and operations at a recreation facility during assigned shifts, ensuring that standards and procedures are consistently maintained. This role oversees the ongoing operations of the recreation facility, including multiple staff, programs, and uses. The Shift Lead provides leadership to all front-line staff working during their assigned shifts, which involves directing and assigning work, adjusting work schedules, coaching, and providing input on employee performance. They also offer ongoing leadership and support to assigned program areas, which may include training, mentoring, scheduling, directing, and assigning work. Additionally, the Shift Lead assists supervisors in hiring staff, adjusts facility schedules and operations to respond to various conditions (program needs, user load, safety, budget, environmental conditions), and makes recommendations regarding staffing levels and facility scheduling. They oversee recreation facility operations during assigned shifts, including technical operations like swimming pools and ice rinks, open and close the facility, ensure health and safety standards are maintained, and report maintenance issues. The role involves ensuring the safety of participants and staff through risk management practices, addressing public questions and concerns positively, serving as the on-site lead for the Emergency Action Plan, and acting as a Mandatory Reporter for incidents of child abuse/neglect. Other job-related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong Knowledge of: Operations, functions and standards for assignment including programming, facility operations, and risk management; Effective customer service; and Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures for assignment.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; two years of college courses in recreation or related field preferred; AND Two (2) years of experience working in a recreation facility or relevant experience with at least one (1) year team lead experience; OR Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.
  • Basic first aid and CPR training and certification.
  • Ability to maintain sustained concentration on computer screens and a variety of peripherals; manual dexterity and daily precise control of fingers and movements while operating keyboard, mobile devices, telephone and standard office equipment.
