About The Position

The Paving Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner at various construction sites. The Paving Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by policies, procedures and operator manuals.

Requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree.
  • Exerting up to 100lbs of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently.
  • Job involves sitting most of the time but also involves walking or standing for times when assisting the job operation on the ground when needed.
  • While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to communicate and hear with other employees and/or GC employees as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment.
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operation of paving machinery to spread, leave, and smooth asphalt or concrete.
  • Ensure the material meets specific grade and thickness requirements.
  • Climbs loader, starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals and turns steering wheel to operate loader.
  • Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives loader to force bucket into bulk materials.
  • Moves levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled and moves levers to dump material.
  • Participates in making sure the quality and quantity of raw materials meets established standards.
  • Ensure assigned established performance indicators are met.
  • Communicates with job Superintendent to report equipment issues to be resolved as promptly as possible.
  • Adheres to all AEDC and OSHA rules and regulations and wears proper safety equipment while on all job sites.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management.
