Pavement Marking Estimator - Lancaster, KY
About The Position
Mullens Markings, Inc. (MMI) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Pavement Marking Estimator to join our growing team in Lancaster, Kentucky. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate project estimates and bid proposals for roadway, airport, parking lot, and parking garage pavement marking projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, knowledge of roadway construction specifications, and the ability to work collaboratively with operations, project management, and clients. Mullen's Markings specializes in pavement marking layout, application, removal, pavement markers, rumble strips, and regulatory signage for both public and private sector projects.
Requirements
- 3+ years of estimating experience in pavement marking, highway construction, asphalt, traffic control, or related construction fields preferred
- Experience with DOT/public works bidding strongly preferred
- Knowledge of thermoplastic, epoxy, waterborne paint, pavement markers, and roadway signage preferred
- Ability to read blueprints, roadway plans, and technical specifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software (HeavyBid, Bid2Win, or similar preferred)
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally to job sites or pre-bid meetings
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) specifications
- Experience estimating roadway striping and airport marking projects
- Understanding of traffic control and MOT requirements
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
Responsibilities
- Review project plans, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements
- Prepare quantity takeoffs for pavement markings, thermoplastic, epoxy, paint, signage, and traffic control items
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
- Develop competitive cost estimates and bid proposals for DOT, municipal, airport, and private projects
- Analyze labor, equipment, production rates, and material costs
- Coordinate with project managers and field operations to ensure accurate pricing and project execution
- Attend pre-bid meetings and occasional site visits as needed
- Maintain estimating databases, historical pricing, and bid records
- Assist with contract negotiations, change orders, and project budgeting
- Ensure compliance with KYTC, DOT, FAA, and industry standards
