About The Position

Under general supervision of the Pavement Supervisor, operate light and heavy-duty equipment as well as use power and hand tools to repair concrete and asphalt surfaces such as runways, taxiways, roadways, and parking lots, mixes materials and coordinates preparation of excavated areas. Builds concrete structures; digs trenches and hauls dirt. Operate snow and ice removal equipment during winter weather events. Train Pavement Workers on the safe operation and use of equipment and tools. Document and report status of inventory and material stock as well as equipment status. Work may be assigned and monitored by a lead person.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent
  • Two (2) years’ experience in concrete or asphalt repair and finish; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Class A commercial driver’s license in a predetermined time frame by the supervisor.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a flagger certification by ATSSA or equivalent in a predetermined time frame by the supervisor.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a Traffic Control Technician certification by ATSSA or equivalent in a predetermined time frame by the supervisor.
  • Must be able to work rotating shift assignment.
  • Must pass a medical physical examination.
  • Must have a good private driving record: (a) no more than two (2) convictions of moving violations in the last 36 months and (b) no DWI convictions in the last 60 months.
  • This is a DOT-designated and Airport-designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass drug and alcohol tests prior to employment and to submit to drug and alcohol screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions in working with hot asphalt mix and operating road machinery and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the techniques and practices in finishing concrete and asphalt surfaces.
  • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to operate a variety of powered and mobile equipment to maintain paved areas.
  • Ability to operate manual and powered tools.
  • Ability to clean, check fluid levels, add fluid as required and to lubricate assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions and to communicate clearly over two-way radio, including ground control for AOA operations.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction and multiplication and division.
  • Ability to drive in Aircraft Movement Area and/or obtain certification to drive in the Aircraft Movement Area.

  • Work on a crew to excavate, repair, and maintain concrete and asphalt surfaces including runways, taxiways, public roadways, and parking lots.

  • Saw cut, jackhammer, replace rebar, and pour back concrete
  • Concrete sidewalk and curb repair
  • Use of epoxy resin or polymer concrete for roadway and bridge repair
  • Mixing of concrete and admixtures
  • Finish surfaces with manual and powered hand tools and equipment
  • Replace, repair and maintenance of concrete and asphalt joints.
  • Repair and maintenance of concrete and asphalt cracks.
  • Repair and maintenance of storm drains and flumes.
  • Repair and maintenance of guardrails and attenuators.
  • Repair and maintenance of fencing, razor wire, and barbed wire.
  • Operates and trains others on the proper and safe use of various powered or mobile equipment and vehicles in maintaining concrete and asphalt surfaces.
  • Setup and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, barrels, arrow boards to create a safe work site.
  • Setup, and move traffic barriers such as concrete and water filled barricades.
  • Be on call to respond to emergency situations requiring assistance from the Pavements Shop.
  • Clean, organize, restock, and report the status of all inventories of materials in a warehouse such as pallets of concrete and cold patch bags.
  • Cleans, checks fluid and gas levels, adds fluid and gas, lubricates vehicles and equipment as well as document and report on vehicle and equipment status and repairs needed.
