About The Position

As a Student Pavement Engineer, you’ll support pavement engineering projects across Alberta and British Columbia, contributing to the planning, analysis, and delivery of road and highway surfacing strategies. This role offers hands‑on exposure to field investigations, data analysis, and technical reporting while working alongside experienced engineers on projects that shape safe, reliable transportation networks.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a civil, geotechnical, transportation engineering, or related university program.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with an interest in pavement engineering.
  • Very good technical report‑writing abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and PDF‑xChange Editor; familiarity with CAD software is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • A well‑organized, enthusiastic approach suited to a fast‑paced consulting environment.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel short‑term within Canada for project work.
  • Commitment to participating in required training and adhering to WSP health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with analyzing pavement condition data, traffic information, and historical pavement performance to support surfacing strategies.
  • Support planning and coordination of site visits across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Participate in site visits to help collect pavement condition, geometric, and traffic volume data.
  • Contribute to the preparation of surfacing strategy reports in alignment with provincial specifications and requirements.
  • Support the development of technical reports, presentations, and project documentation.
  • Assist project managers with progress tracking and reporting.
  • Support the preparation of design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates under the guidance of licensed engineers.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary pavement engineering team members to help achieve project goals.
