About The Position

The Verona Police Department is hiring Patrol Officers for its uniformed patrol division. This recruitment is open to individuals with no prior law enforcement experience who are interested in a career in policing. An accelerated hiring process is available for experienced law enforcement officers. These positions are part of Field Operations and involve duties such as preventative patrol, traffic enforcement, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, and handling criminal investigations. The department is a comprehensive, 24-hour police agency that embraces community-oriented policing and neighborhood problem-solving. Specialized roles within the department include K9 unit, drone program, bike patrol, firearms instructor, evidence technician, detective, emergency vehicle operations instructor, defense and arrest tactics instructor, field training officer, community service officer, and school resource officer.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license
  • Binocular vision correctable to 20/20
  • No color blindness
  • No criminal history that is significantly related to the duties of a police officer
  • Good physical and mental health
  • Weight that is reasonably proportionate to height
  • A minimum of 20 fully accredited college credits is required
  • Must complete 60 fully accredited college credits within five years of hire
  • Possess the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform essential law enforcement duties
  • Operate standard police equipment
  • Execute police use-of-force techniques
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Nice To Haves

  • Prior law enforcement experience (for accelerated hiring process and salary step placement)
  • Currently serving in a similar capacity at another agency (for lateral transfers)
