About The Position

Xanitos, Inc. is seeking Full-Time and Part-Time Patient Transporters at UPMC Altoona in Altoona, PA. This role is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate transportation of patients, specimens, supplies, medical equipment, and patient-related items to their destinations. The goal is to enable physicians, nurses, technicians, and therapists to perform their duties effectively while ensuring a high level of patient and customer satisfaction. The position requires adherence to body mechanics, policies, procedures, and standards set by Xanitos, the hospital, department, and regulatory agencies. This is a 90-day temp-to-hire position with an hourly pay rate of $15.00. Specific shift details will be discussed during the interview process, and candidates must be open to working all shifts.

Requirements

  • Successful applicants must complete a Finger Print Scan and clear a Child Abuse Report.
  • Post-Offer Medical, Background Screening, and Drug Test required.
  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the medical EVS industry is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies correct patient identification using two patient identifiers and comparing information with assignment details, including full patient name, date of birth, or Medical Record Number. Reports discrepancies to nursing staff and transportation dispatcher if identifiers do not match.
  • Ensures the safe, timely, and accurate transport of patients to their destination using appropriate equipment.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics when lifting and transferring patients to and from wheelchairs, gurneys, exam tables, chairs, and beds.
  • Demonstrates competency in transporting all specific age groups and cultures.
  • Verifies and utilizes the proper mode of transportation.
  • Follows standard and isolation precaution guidelines.
  • Ensures proper oxygen levels in tanks before transporting patients.
  • Notifies nursing immediately if patient condition changes.
  • Properly secures IV, drainage tubes, etc., and secures the patient prior to transporting.
  • Notifies nursing personnel, clinical staff, technicians, or receptionists upon arrival of a patient.
  • Ensures patient comfort and dignity by being attentive, offering blankets, and covering the patient properly. Engages in appropriate conversation and does not transport patients experiencing moderate to severe pain.
  • Assists nursing in transferring patients to and from bed or chair to wheelchair or gurney, consulting with nursing and obtaining assistance when required.
  • Notifies dispatcher of any delays, cancellations, or changes in the status of the transport.
  • Removes and properly bags soiled linen after each transport is completed.
  • Sanitizes all transport equipment after each use.
  • Never leaves a patient alone in a treatment area or corridor and ensures proper hand-off to receiving department personnel.
  • Reports any equipment needing repair.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Collects and returns transportation equipment to its proper storage place.
  • Responds to emergency situations according to hospital policy.
  • Transports small equipment or tools between departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
