About The Position

The Patient Transporter is responsible for retrieving medical records, laboratory results, supplies, and medications. This role involves notifying nursing staff when a patient is leaving or returning to the unit, ensuring the patient's chart accompanies them during transport, and completing all transports within assigned time parameters. The transporter also collects and safely delivers specimens and blood products to the appropriate department, checks oxygen cylinders for fullness and safety, and accurately checks in and out of the patient transport system. Additionally, the position involves supply restocking of assigned areas, gathering, cleaning, and disinfecting patient care equipment and other reusable items. The transporter must adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience
  • Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieves medical records, laboratory results, supplies, and medications.
  • Notifies nursing staff when patient is leaving the unit and when patient returns back to the unit.
  • Ensures that patient’s chart is alongside when being transported.
  • Assures all transports are completed within the assigned time parameters.
  • Collects all specimens and blood products and safely delivers to appropriate department.
  • Checks all oxygen cylinders prior to transport to assure tanks are full and are in safe condition.
  • Checks accurately in and out of the patient transport system.
  • Performs supply restocking of assigned area(s).
  • Gathers, cleans, and disinfects patient care equipment and all other reusable items.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
