About The Position

This is a casual (non-benefited) position located at Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital. This role does not have guaranteed hours and is to help support staffing coverage for PTO, sick call ins and other scheduling needs for the department. The Patient Transporter reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
BLS through American Heart Association (or within 90 days of employment)

Nice To Haves

At least 1 year experience with patient transport handling

Responsibilities

Transporting patients as assigned.
Verifying patient identity using two patient identifiers.
Providing and adjusting transport equipment for safety and comfort of the patient (e.g., appropriate line, side rails).
Disinfecting/wiping down equipment with approved cleaning product between patient transports.
Assisting patients onto transport equipment.
Asking for patient care assistance if patients need additional help.
Showing ownership over transport equipment, including routine cleaning, linen dressing, and reporting maintenance needs.
Notifying nursing or ancillary personnel upon arrival or departure of patients.
Attending to the care of documents relating to the patient (e.g., ticket to ride).
Reporting immediately any unusual symptoms of patients (e.g., fainting or shortness of breath) during transport.
Providing, moving, and caring for transport equipment for the movement of patients.
Utilizing appropriate infection control precautions including appropriate hand hygiene, proper PPE, and following isolation precautions to prevent infection.
Safely transporting patient oxygen after it has been set up by a clinician.
Providing feedback to management regarding equipment conditions and availability.
Other duties as assigned.
