About The Position

The Patient Transporter is responsible for providing guest/transport services within the facilities. This includes transporting patients during admissions, transfers, and discharges, as well as escorting visitors and transporting materials and equipment. The role requires excellent customer service and the ability to safely handle patients with various medical devices and equipment. The transporter also plays a role in maintaining a safe and clean environment by monitoring facilities and ensuring equipment is properly managed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • BLS certified within 6 months.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds for moving and lifting patients.
  • Ability to push/pull all patient transport equipment.
  • Ability to present a good working relationship with all departments.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

  • Perform guest/transport services including transports, transfers, discharges, admissions, escorts, and transportation of materials and equipment.
  • Transport patients with medical devices/equipment such as oxygen cylinders, intravenous pumps, PCA pumps, and wound vacs.
  • Coordinate activities to guide patients, visitors/guests, and staff to desired designations within the facilities.
  • Adjust liter flow and determine PSI in an oxygen cylinder, and transfer canula tubing for wall unit to/from cylinder.
  • Perform safe patient handling, including moving patients, using patient lifts, and performing patient transfers (stand-pivot and lateral).
  • Provide education to patients and visitors/guests regarding room orientation, transport process, and essential support services, or direct them to the appropriate resources.
  • Utilize capacity management systems and equipment (Encompass/Epic, I Phone, Halo, computer) to process tasks.
  • Assist with the care and maintenance of transport equipment to ensure it is safe, clean, and ready for use.
  • Inspect equipment before and after use to identify defective equipment and report any defects immediately to a supervisor.
  • Monitor facilities to ensure the environment is safe and clean, ensuring unattended equipment does not obstruct hallways, electrical panels, fire extinguishers, or emergency exits.
  • Maintain equipment inventory throughout facilities, including stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, oxygen cylinders and carriers, and IV poles.
  • Complete and maintain required training, educational programs, and certifications.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Adhere to Advocate Health and departmental policies and procedures.
