About The Position

This is a PRN "As Needed" Position. The Patient Transporter transports patients from their room throughout the hospital as needed to ancillary departments. They adhere to schedules and notify departments of schedule changes in a timely manner. Transports patients in a safe and efficient manner, including the use of AIDET. The role involves transporting patients and patient-related items to and from various hospital locations to ancillary departments, utilizing appropriate resources to ensure safe patient transport. The transporter ensures the patient is covered for comfort and/or privacy and stays with the patient at all times. They provide Hand-off communication to the receiving nurse, verify patient information using two forms of verification, and ensure the patient has a proper identification bracelet. The transporter notifies the appropriate department within five minutes of patient delay for scheduled procedures or therapy sessions and maintains daily transportation logs which include departure and arrival times, name of patient, and/or equipment transported. They may provide life-saving care during emergency codes. Additionally, the role includes monitoring and inspecting patient care equipment prior to and during transports, cleaning and maintaining hospital transport equipment/wheelchairs, and using the hospital monitor program to monitor transport as per schedule and disinfect surfaces between transports. A review of the equipment/orientation checklist is performed at least annually to ensure competent use of equipment.

Requirements

BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
Healthcare and/or transport experience preferred

Responsibilities
