About The Position
Xanitos, Inc. is hiring full-time Patient Transporters, Patient Sitters, and Hospital Housekeepers for all shifts at UPMC Altoona. The posting notes immediate offers for qualified candidates and a 90-day temp-to-hire period for Environmental Services and Transport positions. Patient Sitters provide visual and audible observation of assigned patients in alignment with a Registered Nurse and under the direction of the Xanitos Leadership team. Patient Transporters safely, promptly, and accurately transport patients, specimens, supplies, medical equipment, and patient-related items. They help enable clinical staff to perform their duties effectively, maintain patient and customer satisfaction, and follow proper body mechanics and applicable company, hospital, department, and regulatory policies and procedures. Hospital Housekeepers clean and maintain facilities or locations across a healthcare campus in an orderly condition. The work may involve exposure to blood and body fluids while transporting patients, moving mechanical parts, and chemicals that may require special clothing or safety equipment. The work environment is usually quiet. The role involves substantial standing and walking, frequent lifting and moving tasks, and assisting staff with patient movement using approved lifting devices.
Requirements
- Complete a fingerprint scan and clear a Child Abuse Report.
- Complete post-offer medical screening, background screening, and a drug test.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to stand for long periods and regularly stand, walk, use hands, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to frequently climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to assist staff members and use approved lifting devices to lift or move patients.
- Required visual capabilities include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in the medical Environmental Services (EVS) industry.
- Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment.
Responsibilities
- Provide visual and audible observation of assigned patients in coordination with a Registered Nurse and under the direction of the Xanitos Leadership team.
- Safely, timely, and accurately transport patients, specimens, supplies, medical equipment, and patient-related items to their destinations.
- Help physicians, nurses, technicians, and therapists perform their duties effectively.
- Maintain a high level of patient and customer satisfaction.
- Follow proper body mechanics and applicable Xanitos, hospital, department, and regulatory policies, procedures, and standards.
- Clean and maintain healthcare campus facilities or locations in an orderly condition.
