Job Profile Summary The Patient Transporter is responsible for the safe and timely transport of SRALab inpatients to and from scheduled appointments to internal departments/clinics within the hospital. Transports inpatients to external appointments at nearby partner hospitals/clinics locally. Compassionately engages and escorts patients and family members. The Patient Transporter is effectively the lone liaison of SRALab for patients and family during the transport sequence. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong customer skills
  • A valid Illinois driver's license and clean driving record in the state of Illinois is required.
  • Able to safely drive and fully operate an ADA-configured full-size van [Ford E-350] in an enclosed garage environment and dense, urban vehicular traffic.
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Successful completion of transporter orientation
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and push/pull 100 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Rendezvous with nursing/admin staff, patients and family members at designated pick-up/drop-off points to transport
  • Transports patient via wheelchairs, beds, stretchers to appointments internally
  • Actively engages patients and family during transport
  • Ensures proper handoff of patient to appropriate staff at the destination
  • Conducts return transport procedures, confirming proper handoff to nursing unit staff
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following all policies and procedures.
  • Safely escorts wheelchair patients and family through the posted parking garage walkways to the vehicles
  • Safely operates the lift and loads/secures patient and family.
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of vehicle
  • Communicates effectively using timely verbal, nonverbal and written communication.
  • Willing adapts to changing work demands and work environment
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
