About The Position

This position is responsible for the transportation of patients, equipment, specimens, medical records and miscellaneous items throughout the entire medical center campus. Employees are responsible for dispatching and prioritizing runs. They transport preoperative and postoperative patients to and from the operating room. These employees keep track of their daily statistics and finalize report at end of the month.

Requirements

  • BLS: Basic Life Support (within 1 month of hire or transfer)
  • TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (within 6 months of hire or transfer, or 24 months for employees in this position on or before 12/31/2023)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Computer knowledge
  • Ability to communicate successfully with patients, family and staff
  • Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan
  • Organizational skills/computer skills
  • Quality customer service skills
  • Demonstrate competency in Microsoft® Windows

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients throughout the medical center including occasional ones to Riecker Surgery Center, Campus Ridge or Women’s Center.
  • Transport pre- and post-op patients to and from operating room and PACU.
  • Discharge patients.
  • Transport supplies, equipment, specimens, medical records throughout the medical center including Riecker Surgery Center.
  • Work as dispatcher and prioritize runs based on patient needs.
  • Utilize good communication skills.
  • Perform tasks on computer.
  • Record daily and monthly stats.
  • Access the medication room and supply room for the purpose of stocking.
  • Follow established safety procedures: patient identification, safe transfers, prepares and maintains O2.
  • Follow universal precautions.
  • Assure transport devices are cleaned between each transport.
  • Maintain confidentiality and document on medical record.
  • Demonstrate competency in Microsoft® Windows.
  • Participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
