The Patient Transport role involves transporting all patient populations to and from examinations and treatments, performing general errands, and other routine duties such as cleaning equipment and securing supplies. The individual acts as a team member in delivering quality patient care and adheres to unit procedures where transport services are rendered.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BLS (AHA, American Heart Association) or BLS (ARC, American Red Cross) certification within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for transport and performs passive and active identification to ensure all patients are properly identified before transporting.
  • Transports all patients and equipment to and from testing and procedure areas including inpatient, outpatient, emergency and high risk Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
  • Effectively communicates with medical employees to ensure all required medical supplies and medications are appropriately transported with the patient including the administering of oxygen when required.
  • Responsible for the timely discharge of patients throughout the hospital.
  • Under the direction of medical employees and/or Registered Nurse (RN), assists in providing support in toileting ambulatory patients.
  • Cleans and disinfects equipment according to established policies and procedures.
  • Maintains clean work areas and returns equipment to appropriate department.
  • Communicates malfunctioning equipment/instruments to appropriate department/unit staff.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
