Responsible for maintaining patient safety at all times while in the company of the patient. Safely and professionally transports patients without incident to units, testing areas, and areas on campus. Remains with discharged patients until their ride arrives for pick-up. Transports patients to the discharge center during the hours of operations. Lifts the bed rails up and places the nurse call button near the patient after placing the patient back in bed. Utilizes proper body mechanics when lifting, pulling or pushing patients to avoid injury or damage to the patients. Keeps patients informed and gives periodic updates, as appropriate. Within the scope of position, positively contributes to organizational goal of patient throughput. Delivers medical items to the nursing units at the request of the House Supervisor such as pumps, I.V poles or special beds in a timely manner. Escorts visitors, patients, or other staff members to other appropriate areas of the hospital.
