Patient Transport Technician, Champaign
About The Position
Advanced Medical Transport (AMT) is seeking full-time Patient Transport Technicians in Champaign. AMT is a private, not-for-profit organization providing emergency and scheduled ambulance and patient transport services. As a patient transport technician, you will be responsible for ensuring compassionate, safe, and efficient transfer between facilities for adult behavioral health patients. This role is part of the Illinois Patient Transfer (IPT) team, supporting hospitals, patients, and families across the state. The position is based in Champaign with variable shifts and hours, and it is common for technicians to work past their scheduled shift end times.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- Valid Illinois Driver’s license required
- Required to pass a drug screen
- Complete an introduction to mental health training within six months of hire
- Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures required to administer patient supervision and transportation
- Demeanor and knowledge to supervise and document patient behavior
- Maintain safe driving practices by consistently following all rules of the road
- Ability to pass post-offer physical
Nice To Haves
- Minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience, preferably in transportation, mental health services, security, or direct patient care
Responsibilities
- Supervision of all patients as assigned to his/her for transportation.
- Provide de-escalation techniques and aggression preventative strategies when necessary.
- Assist the healthcare facility staff in escorting the patient and their belongings to and from the vehicle at both originating and receiving facilities.
- Assure the accuracy and completeness of all company and patient contact paperwork.
- Be responsible for all equipment and supplies as specified on company vehicle check-off sheets and inventory requirements.
- Maintain current, State of Illinois driver’s license according to provisions set forth by the Illinois Secretary of State and Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Maintain professional appearance and attitude at all times.
- Help promote a positive company image.
