Patient Services Representatives provide efficient, high-quality service to patients who arrive for appointments or who telephone or visit in person to request appointments or information on tests and procedures, bills and charges, referrals, and other matters. They are responsible for greeting and accurately registering patients in the EMR system, coordinating appointment scheduling, answering multiple incoming telephone lines, distributing communications, and resolving patient questions regarding referrals, billing, and services. They also schedule future appointments and necessary tests, coordinate with hospital admissions when needed, notify care areas of patient arrival, and ensure patients are seen in a timely manner or are notified of delays. Additionally, they accurately identify insurance types, understand different payers, and verify eligibility. This role also involves ensuring accurate entry of billing information, reviewing encounter forms, entering patient charges, and batching/balancing encounter forms. For medical records, they uphold standards for accuracy and timeliness, release information according to policy, ensure the availability of prepared records, and maintain medical records including filing and chart preparation. Confidentiality of all patient information is paramount.
