About The Position

Provides direct patient care and performs clerical duties for nursing units. May involve handling non-prescription medications. Responsibilities include accurate, timely, and safe patient care, effective communication with personnel, patients, and families, and maintaining accurate documentation. Utilizes equipment and supplies safely, orders supplies as needed, and correctly labels specimens. Performs basic nursing care, simple and complex procedures, multiple treatments, waived testing, and transports patients. Maintains the patient record, enters orders, and organizes the record according to standards. Facilitates communication among patients, nursing, physicians, ancillary departments, and guests. Orders and stores supplies for the nursing unit. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
  • One (1) year nurse tech hospital experience or skilled nursing facility is required if the candidate does not meet all of the educational requirements.
  • Computer experience required.
  • Candidates must successfully complete Palmetto Health unit secretary course and training within 90 days of hire.
  • Candidates without the preferred experience are eligible for hire if they meet all of the educational requirements.
  • Heart saver training
  • Successful completion of tech training course as evidenced by Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) course or nursing fundamentals from accredited organization

Nice To Haves

  • CNA or CMA or related experience is preferred.
  • Two (2) years NT/NA experience preferred.
  • US one (1) year Hospital clerical experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of an EKG course for portable EKG and successful completion of a phlebotomy course from an accredited organization preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Training acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Performs responsibilities accurately, timely, and safely for assigned patients/area.
  • Communicates and informs appropriate personnel, patients and family members of pertinent information in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate paper and electronic documentation.
  • Utilizes equipment and supplies safely and appropriately; orders supplies as needed; labels specimens correctly.
  • Performs basic nursing care, simple and complex procedures, multiple treatments, waived testing and transports assigned patients.
  • Maintains the order of the patient record; enters patient car orders into the computer system; thins and organizes the patient care record in accordance with the standards of care identified by the nursing unit; facilitates communication among patients, nursing, physicians, ancillary departments, and guests; orders and stores supplies for the nursing unit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
