About The Position

The Patient Support Technician performs routine assistive tasks to help the Registered Nurse meet patients’ basic needs. This is an unlicensed assistive personnel role on the Medical Nursing - 10 E department at Richland Hospital. The position works nights at the Richland facility. The role is non-management and reports to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive. Team members are expected to understand and comply with Prisma Health’s purpose: “Inspire health. Requirements

• Completion of a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Tech, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course.
• Successfully complete Prisma Health unit secretary course and training within 90 days of hire.
• In lieu of school verification of a nursing assistant training course, current or former CNA certification may be accepted as proof of completed state-required training at time of hire.
• In lieu of school verification of a medical assistant training course, current or former CMA certification may be accepted as proof of completed required training at time of hire.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous nursing assistant, medical assistant, or related experience preferred.
• One year of hospital clerical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal hygiene, including bathing, washing hair, brushing teeth and hair, and washing hands.
• Assist patients with nutrition and feeding, including helping with feeding and drinking and setting up meal trays.
• Assist patients with ambulation, including dangling, walking, using assistive devices, and implementing fall-prevention measures under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
• Assist patients with elimination needs, including getting to the bathroom, using a bedside commode, bedpan, or urinal.
• Accurately monitor and record inputs and outputs.
• Complete and document patient vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, heart rate, and oxygenation via pulse oximetry or ETCO2.
• Report abnormal values to the Registered Nurse.
• Complete the Prisma Health unit secretary course and training within 90 days of hire.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
