North Alabama Medical Center, opened its doors in 2018, as the replacement facility for Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital, in Florence, Alabama. North Alabama Medical Center serves as a regional facility with more than 200 physicians on staff who represent more than 42 specialty areas of medicine.

Requirements

  • Requires Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment; rapid learning and navigation of multiple software systems; effective English communication (read/write/speak); ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
  • BCLS required

  • High School diploma preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Observe the patient and maintain a safe environment; must always have continuous and unobstructed view of the patient.
  • May not adjust or remove restraints. If the patient complains of discomfort, notify the nurse immediately.
  • Accompany the patient for any test or procedures off the unit.
  • Accompany surgical patients to the Holding Area.
  • Remain within arm’s length of the patient until relieved by the RN.
  • Attempt to prevent the patient from getting out of bed if there is an activity level of bed rest ordered.
  • Attempt to prevent the patient from pulling out lines/tubes.
  • May assist patient to the bathroom if activity level permits and RN approves. Bathroom door will remain open and sitter will have direct view of patient at all times.
  • At the discretion of the nurse, may assist with ambulation and feeding.
  • Assist the patient with obtaining fluids, consuming meals, wiping their face, etc.
  • May read to the patient, play a board game or cards, turn on the television and engage on general conversation.
  • Refer patient requests for assistance to the nursing staff via call bell system.
  • Always protect the patient’s dignity and privacy by keeping the patient covered, the patient room door closed, etc.
