About The Position
Under general direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager and/or the RN, the Patient Sitter remains in constant attendance with the patient. The role provides comfort and assists with maintaining a safe and clean environment. The incumbent performs a range of tasks and works under direction within a framework of established procedures. Work is normally reviewed only on completion and for overall results.
Requirements
- Current BLS certificate
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of hospital established policies, quality assurance program, patient safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of common medical equipment and instruments used in a hospital setting.
- Ability to manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgment/action which could result in undesirable patient outcome.
- Ability to follow policy and procedures of setting assigned.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Ability to work effectively under stress and in emergency situations.
- Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.

- Some job related training or previous experience in acute care setting preferred.
