Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of related clinical office experience.
  • Two years of experience working with insurances; verifying, sequencing & interpreting benefits.
  • Two years of experience working with practice management and electronic health record system; preferably EPIC.
  • Knowledge of third-party payers and publicly funded program structures and eligibility requirements.
  • Problem solving skills; identifies and analyzes problems, distinguishes between relevant and irrelevant information to make logical decisions.
  • Communication skills; expresses ideas and facts in a clear and organized manner; listens effectively and demonstrates that by clarifying information when necessary.
  • Technical skills; advanced knowledge of front office policies, standards, and protocols; applies expertise to generate process improvements and solve problems; enhances expertise in peers.

  • Microsoft Office 365; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email & Calendar Management (outlook), Teams (video conferencing and meetings), and Share Point.
  • Electronic health records software (EPIC preferred).
  • Current AED CPR certification or attainment within 6 months of hire.
  • Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test.
  • Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position.
  • Must pass criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all the standard PSR functions.
  • Greet patients and visitors with emphasis on service excellence; addresses or directs questions/concerns.
  • Explain eligibility criteria to patients and the public regarding clinical service access.
  • Understand and accurately interpret patient eligibility statuses, PRC, Direct, Non-Native.
  • Serve as back-up to the Registration Office, reviews forms for completeness and accuracy.
  • Answer, screen, address, and/or transfer inbound phone calls; utilize round-robin phone que system.
  • Serves as a resource to department personnel regarding established front desk procedures and protocols; appointment scheduling eligibility statuses, patient check in / out.
  • Assists with scheduling problem solving and patient wait times; work to increase efficiency.
  • Schedule patient clinical appointments following established scheduling protocols.
  • Resolve scheduling conflicts and notify patients of changes or cancellations.
  • Work with clinical staff to assess urgency and prioritize appointments for re-scheduling.
  • Understand scheduling protocols and perform PSR functions at multiple department desks.
  • Collect, review, and verify patient insurance/ 3rd party coverage; enter in EPIC system.
  • Assist patients/providers with general insurance and benefits coverage questions.
  • Check patients in for their appointments and generates clinical encounter.
  • Monitor waiting room area and actively communicate with clinical staff.
  • Review and verify patient chart information for accuracy; up-dates demographic, insurance, and client defined fields as appropriate to ensure the patient record is complete and current.
  • Scan and upload patient documents into the EPIC system.
  • Handle a variety of confidential information; adhere to HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Handle cash daily; accept, and process insurance copayments and specialty services copayments. Accept and accurately post patient account payments.
  • Position may be reassigned during activation of EOP.
