The Patient Services Representative is responsible for complete and accurate patient registration, pre-certification, charge capture, and accurately coding diagnoses given by physicians. They also handle posting all payments, balancing computer reports at day end, arranging for patient pre-payments, and enforcing financial agreements prior to providing service. The role involves gathering charge information, coding, entering into the database, completing the billing process, and distributing billing information. Additionally, they file insurance claims, assist patients with insurance forms, and process unpaid accounts by contacting patients and third-party payers. This position serves as a liaison between the patient and medical support staff, greeting patients and visitors courteously, checking them in, verifying and updating insurance information, and obtaining necessary signatures. The representative also assists patients with ambulatory difficulties, maintains the appointment book, provides front office phone support, and screens visitors. They are responsible for gathering, accurately coding, and posting outpatient charges, processing payments, researching address verification, and helping to process mail returns and outgoing statements. The role involves cashiering functions, preparing daily cash deposits, receiving payments, and maintaining records. They work with patients to secure prepayment sources or financial agreements and participate with other staff to achieve account resolution. Assisting with outpatient coding and error resolution, processing edits, and handling customer service and collection requests are also key duties. Identifying trends and communicating problems to management, updating patient account databases, and maintaining physician schedules are part of the responsibilities. Scheduling surgeries, ancillary services, and follow-up appointments, answering questions about appointments and testing, and assembling patient charts are also included. The representative updates patient profiles for completeness and accuracy, oversees the waiting area, and coordinates patient movement. They assist patients with questions regarding insurance claims, disability benefits, home health care, and medical equipment. Processing benefit correspondence and insurance forms to expedite payment, assisting patients with pre-certification, and following up with insurance companies for coverage approval are crucial. They post all actions, maintain permanent records of patient accounts, answer account-related questions, confirm workers’ compensation claims, and prepare disability claims. Maintaining files with referral slips, medical authorizations, and insurance slips, researching information for outpatient billing, and coding procedures and diagnoses are also required. The role involves keying charge information, processing and distributing billings, pulling and filing charts, picking up lab reports and other documents, checking for misfiled charts, maintaining orderly files, purging obsolete records, and making new patient charts. They assist in locating and filing records, work with medical assistants to route charts, and follow medical records policies. Collecting payments at the time of service, reviewing accounts for timely payments, performing collection actions, evaluating patient financial status, and making recommendations for collection agencies are essential. Identifying and resolving patient billing complaints and participating in educational activities are also part of the role. Gathering and verifying superbills, entering charge and payment information, verifying accuracy, printing daily reports, balancing charge entry, and backing up and closing computer files are daily tasks. Registering new patients, updating financial information, and maintaining strict confidentiality are also required. As a representative of Prisma Health Clinical Department, the individual is expected to maintain a neat and professional appearance, demonstrate commitment to service, and uphold office guidelines. Performs related work as required and other duties as assigned.
