About The Position

This role is responsible for the prompt, courteous, and accurate registration of Clinic patients, working with minimal supervision. The Patient Services Representative will greet patients, accurately submit patient information and insurance details into the computer system, and scan documents into the EMR as needed. This position requires knowledge of patient insurances and the ability to input this information accurately. The representative will also handle Medicare Questionnaires, obtain patient signatures on necessary forms, and scan these into the EMR. A key responsibility includes working pursuit lists to schedule patients for necessary labs, mammograms, etc. Insurance eligibility will be verified the day prior to appointments and upon check-in. The role also involves answering phones courteously, satisfying caller requests, and performing other duties as assigned by the Office Supervisor and Outreach Clinics Management Department. Maintaining patient confidentiality is crucial. Additional duties include filtering calls, taking messages, scheduling appointments (and informing providers of emergencies), running patient inquiries for lab/x-ray technicians, receiving and distributing home health forms, scheduling referrals and receiving completion documentation, printing medical records upon request with proper release of information, and making appointments for X-rays and other doctors.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Typing speed of 30-40 wpm required.
  • Must be able to pass the “Clerical Ability Test” with 80% or better as given by the Human Resources Department.
  • One to two years’ previous experience in the commercial health care environment required.
  • Previous work history that demonstrates steady attendance and punctuality is required.
  • Near visual & hearing acuity required to perform essential duties of position.

Responsibilities

  • Greet each patient entering the clinic in a friendly manner.
  • Accurate submission of all patient information to the computer system including all insurance and demographics.
  • Scan documents into EMR, when necessary.
  • Input patient insurance and demographic information with accuracy.
  • Properly request and enter patient information on the Medicare Questionnaire.
  • Obtain patient’s signatures on appropriate forms and scan forms into EMR system on correct patient.
  • Work pursuit lists, which involves calling patients who are in need of labs, mammograms, etc. and getting them scheduled.
  • Verify insurance eligibility day prior to appointment and upon check-in utilizing Emdeon.
  • Answer phone courteously and make every attempt to satisfy caller’s request.
  • Properly protect and preserve patient confidentiality.
  • Answer telephone, filter calls, take messages and distribute them.
  • Schedule appointments, and, if an emergency, inform provider.
  • Run inquiries on patients for lab/x-ray technician.
  • Receive and distribute home health forms for the Doctors to sign.
  • Schedule all referrals and receive documentation from the provider/entity when treatment/visit is completed.
  • Print medical records upon patient request obtaining appropriate release of information form.
  • Make appointments for X-rays and other Doctors.
