About The Position

The Patient Services Food Services Associate II leads daily departmental activities to ensure quality food and nutrition services. This role involves assuming responsibilities assigned by the manager, facilitating effective communication, and resolving operational issues to support facility and service line goals. Key duties include scheduling and adjusting staffing, maintaining standards of performance, food quality, and sanitation, and ensuring compliance with Food and Nutrition Services policies and procedures. The associate will also complete general food service tasks, participate in department activities such as co-worker orientation, patient/customer satisfaction initiatives, cost reduction efforts, and inspection readiness. Daily documentation review, ordering and monitoring food and supplies, and involvement in hiring and staff development are also part of the role. Additionally, the position requires administering and documenting menus and patient food requests using automated computer systems, including electronic medical records. Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED or two years of related experience.
  • 1 to 3 years related nutritional or retail food service experience.
  • SERV-Safe Certification or equivalent certification from the Virginia Health Department is required; or ability to obtain certification within year one in this position.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required.
  • This position is deemed emergency personnel during emergency weather conditions.
  • Must provide own transportation and travel to other Carilion work sites.
  • May be required to work at other Carilion facilities to meet staffing needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience highly desirable.
  • Keyboarding or computer skills for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the daily activities of the department to assure quality food and nutrition services.

  • Schedules and adjusts staffing as appropriate.
  • Maintains standards of performance, food quality and sanitation.
  • Follows and ensures compliance to Food and Nutrition Services policies and procedures.
  • Completes all general food service tasks as assigned.
  • Participates in department activities/meetings, which may include orientation of co-workers, patient/customer satisfaction initiatives, cost reduction initiatives and inspection readiness.
  • Reviews and verifies all documentation daily.
  • Orders and/or monitors food and supplies.
  • Participates in hiring process, staff development and feedback.
  • Administers and documents menus and requests for patient food items utilizing automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
