About The Position

UVA Community Health, part of the UVA Health academic health system, is dedicated to caring for the whole person by building meaningful connections with patients in local community hospitals, outpatient locations, and provider offices. This role contributes to patient care decisions, supports advanced medical technologies, and aims to make a difference in people's lives. The Patient Services Coordinator Lead is responsible for scheduling and registering patients, verifying eligibility, obtaining pre-authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications. They also train new team members, manage daily front office operations, ensure quality and efficiency of front office processes, and lead front office throughput. This role acts as a liaison with revenue cycle staff, ensures timely billing and collection of co-pays, leads front office staff meetings/huddles, manages schedules and coverage, and serves as a liaison with supervisors or clinic leaders for front office issues. Additional duties may be assigned by a supervisor or clinic leader.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience (admitting, business office, scheduling) required.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Possess a high degree of excellent customer service skills.
  • Background of insurance knowledge is required for certain tasks assigned.
  • Ability to comprehend insurance cards and benefit details.
  • Ability to deal directly with the public in a professional and empathetic manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and registers patients for the outpatient clinic.
  • Verifies patient eligibility and ensures all pre-authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications are obtained as necessary.
  • Trains new Patient Service Coordinator team members.
  • Responsible for daily operations of the front office, quality and outcomes of front office processes and responsibilities, along with leading front office throughput.
  • Serves as a liaison with revenue cycle staff.
  • Ensures timely billing and appropriate collections of co-pays, etc.
  • Leads any staff meetings/huddles for front office staff, owns schedule and ensuring coverage for front office as appropriate, and serves as a liaison with supervisor or clinic leader for any front office issues.
  • Perform other job-related duties as directed by the Supervisor or clinic leader.

Benefits

  • The base compensation range for this role is $17.04 - $25.26 hourly.
