Under limited supervision, performs a variety of clerical activities to support practice operations including customer service, managing telephone calls, scheduling, registration, and copay collections. This role involves receiving and screening visitors and telephone calls, responding to general inquiries, and providing customer service to patients by relaying information about the Medical Center and reminding them of appointments. The position also includes scheduling patient appointments, performing data entry of patient demographic and insurance information, verifying insurance, and assisting patients with registering for MyChart. A significant part of the role involves managing a high volume of telephone calls, generating telephone encounters, and addressing all telephone messages by the end of the day. Additionally, the Patient Services Assistant is responsible for pre-registration and confirmation of patient appointments, checking in patients, verifying insurance, collecting and scanning identification and insurance cards, managing referral work queues, and handling incoming faxes. Scanning medical records, responding to in-basket messages, and collecting patient co-payments, form fees, and outstanding balances are also key duties. The role may also involve assisting with scheduling diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and obtaining referrals and preauthorization for procedures.
