Under limited supervision, performs a variety of clerical activities to support practice operations including customer service, managing telephone calls, scheduling, registration, and copay collections. The role involves receiving and screening visitors and telephone calls, responding to general inquiries, and providing customer service to patients. Key responsibilities include scheduling appointments, entering patient demographic and insurance information, verifying insurance, and assisting patients with registration for MyChart. The position also manages a high volume of telephone calls, generates telephone encounters, and ensures all messages are addressed by the end of the day. Additionally, the role handles pre-registration, confirmation of appointments, patient check-in, insurance verification, and scanning identification and insurance cards. Management of referral work queues, scheduling appointments from active referrals, and routing faxes are also part of the duties. The Patient Services Assistant is responsible for addressing and responding to In-basket messages from patients and providers, closing them out daily, and responding to EPIC Secure chats. Collection of patient co-payments, form fees, and outstanding balances, along with reconciling monies collected and making deposits, are essential functions. The role also assists with scheduling diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures, ensuring patients are notified and receive appropriate information, and obtaining referrals and pre-authorizations for procedures.
