About The Position

The Patient Service Specialist is responsible for reviewing and documenting patient identification, placing armbands on patients, and utilizing effective communication skills when interacting with patients, visitors, co-workers, management, and physicians. This role ensures compliance with HIPPA, CMS, and Medicare/Medicaid regulations pertaining to the registration process and information flow. The specialist provides continuity in departmental operations, refers patients to Patient Financial Resource Services (PFRS) and Drug List Techs as needed, and provides age/developmental appropriate assistance to families, patients, and visitors. They also assist departmental staff in fostering a caring and compassionate environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting or as a Unit Secretary preferred.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Focus on customer service skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to use WakeOne
  • Organized and ability to work as a team member

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and documents patient identification, and places armbands on patients arriving for care.
  • Uses effective communication skills when interacting with patients, visitors, co-workers, management and physicians. Uses effective communication skills and strict patient identifiers when directing information and communications.
  • Maintains compliance with HIPPA regulations, CMS regulation and Medicare/Medicaid regulations as the regulations pertain to the registration process and information flow to the multi-disciplinary team and to the public.
  • Provides continuity in departmental operations.
  • Refers patients to PFRS (Patient Financial Resource Services) when necessary.
  • Refer patients to Drug List Techs for update of medications before surgery as needed.
  • Provides age/developmental appropriate skills for the specific age groups served when assisting families, patients and visitors.
  • Assists departmental staff in providing a caring compassionate environment.
