About The Position

A Patient Service Specialist I at Scotland Health Care System is responsible for various core duties related to patient check-in and administrative tasks within the SCMG Scotland Urgent Care - Immediate Care department. This full-time position involves ensuring accurate patient registration, managing appointments, handling patient inquiries via phone, and processing payments. The role requires strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills to provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced clinic environment. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency (GED)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems independently.
  • Excellent in verbal and communication skills.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in healthcare administration or equivalent college coursework
  • Previous Medical Office experience

Responsibilities

  • Accurately completes EPIC registration for each patient, including verifying and updating demographics, screening for insurance eligibility, and scanning insurance cards.
  • Offers Self-Pay Sliding Fee application and ensures acknowledgement is signed for applicable services.
  • Ensures E-sign Consent for treatment and insurance authorization is completed if due.
  • Follows Standard work for Patient Appointment arrival.
  • Performs Patient reminder calls and reviews requests to cancel or reschedule appointments.
  • Handles live calls for appointment reminders with a goal of decreasing unused appointment slots daily.
  • Greets patients and answers phones in a kind, courteous tone.
  • Assists patients with scheduling and rescheduling appointments.
  • Creates inbox messages as needed to assist patients, including refill requests for medication.
  • Demonstrates competence in identifying RED words.
  • Schedules appointments for walk-ins.
  • Generates no-show letters through EPIC.
  • Collects copays and coinsurance as applicable at Check out or Check in.
  • Completes standard work for daily deposit and reconciliation.
