About The Position

The Patient Service Representative supports the service area by checking patients in and out of appointments and providing exemplary customer service to patients and guests. The role reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values; adheres to its Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program; and complies with relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. For representatives in Immediate Care Clinics, the position may include floating to other Immediate Care Clinics or departments. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Zero to two years of experience in a customer service position.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology.
• Bilingual.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and guests, confirm patient identity, and provide information related to their visit.
• Complete patient check-in and check-out functions as directed.
• Confirm and update patient identification, demographic, and insurance information.
• Complete patient registration as needed.
• Obtain patient consents and authorizations.
• Collect co-payments, past-due balances, and point-of-service payments.
• Post payments, process billing information, and close the cash drawer at the end of the day.
• Keep the waiting area clean and comfortable.
• Inform patients of delays or changes in appointment status.
• Schedule appointments as necessary.
• For Immediate Care Clinic representatives, float to other Immediate Care Clinics or departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
