About The Position

The Patient Service Representative is responsible for the registration and pre-registration of scheduled patients for various services including admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient care. This role involves verifying insurance coverage, obtaining necessary authorizations and referrals, and coordinating with patients and scheduling departments to manage appointments. The representative is also tasked with requesting upfront payments and maintaining an updated schedule by processing cancellations and rescheduling.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required
Accurate spelling and attention to detail required
Must be able to key 40 wpm
Excellent communication skills and customer services skills required

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's Degree preferred
Knowledge of patient registration, insurance, and hospital billing preferred
Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of third party reimbursement preferred

Responsibilities

Registers or Pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services.
Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that requires authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral.
Coordinates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged.
Requests upfront payment of deposits from responsible party.
Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis.
