About The Position

The Patient Service Representative position at Atrium Health Corporate, within the Enterprise Revenue Cycle - Rev Cycle Strategic Support Team, is a part-time role with a varied schedule and no benefits eligibility. Key responsibilities include registering and pre-registering patients for various services, verifying insurance coverage, obtaining necessary authorizations, coordinating with patients and scheduling departments for procedure rescheduling, requesting upfront payments, and continuously updating schedules for changes. The role operates in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and requires physical mobility, including pushing wheelchairs and responding to medical emergencies. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Accurate spelling and attention to detail required
  • Must be able to key 40 wpm
  • Excellent communication skills and customer services skills required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Knowledge of patient registration, insurance, and hospital billing preferred
  • Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of third party reimbursement preferred

Responsibilities

  • Registers or Pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that requires authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral.
  • Coordinates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged.
  • Requests upfront payment of deposits from responsible party.
  • Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis.
