About The Position

The Patient Service Representative position is vital to the success of Erlanger Medical Group's practices, which include over 50 locations in the Chattanooga and surrounding region and employ over 500 providers. Opportunities are available in various specialties such as Cardiology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Primary Care, Urology, and Women's Services. The Patient Service Representative is responsible for a variety of patient and customer service-related activities within the department. This role is part of a team-based approach to care, where team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role according to State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. They are trained and assigned to coordinate care for patients, support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy, and behavior change, and manage the practice's patient population. Participation in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation is also expected.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be able to work well with others.
  • Always poised, courteous, pleasing personality, good telephone voice and able to meet the public.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to relate well to people of a broad socioeconomic mix, with sensitivity to the delicate nature of the department.
  • Ability to work in a typical office setting with some stressful situations.
  • Personal flexibility.
  • Moderate sitting, stooping, bending required.
  • Moderate work at word processing screen required.

Nice To Haves

  • College courses in business, English and general office management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years reception experience or general clerical experience.
  • Prior IDX/Invision training desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of office functions including computer data entry and word processing, filing, record keeping, and reception duties.
  • Cross-cover for other similar positions.
  • Manage specific medical records responsibilities, including filing documents appropriately, general maintenance of the file room, chart copying, faxing, and mailing out records as directed.
  • Answer department phones.
  • Enter lab and/or radiology orders into Invision during busy times.
  • Sort and distribute mail.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for IDX/Invision patient registration, including obtaining referrals/pre-certs and records on new patients.
  • Coordinate care for patients.
  • Support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy, and behavior change.
  • Manage the practices' patient population.
  • Participate in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.
