This per diem, part-time role is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, which serves as the foundation for the patient medical record used by all healthcare team members. The Patient Service Representative will register patients, verify demographic and insurance information, and collect co-pays and other patient financial responsibilities. Maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA is paramount. The role requires knowledge of insurance basics, Advocate Health contracts, and when financial statements are necessary. The representative will also educate patients on financial obligations, refer them to Financial Advocates when needed, and ensure compliance with government regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and others. Responsibilities include obtaining necessary signatures, potentially scheduling appointments, and providing detailed information about test preparations and facility directions. The role emphasizes creating a welcoming environment through exceptional customer service, greeting patients and visitors, answering telephones, and offering assistance with transportation, directions, wheelchairs, and interpreter services. The position also involves managing electronic health record work queues according to departmental processes.
