This part-time position is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, preventing duplicate records, and ensuring patient safety through positive identification. The role involves checking in and registering patients, collecting demographic and insurance information, and discussing/collecting co-pays. Accurate registration is crucial for timely payment and preventing billing issues. The position requires maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, understanding insurance basics, and knowing Advocate Health's contracted plans. The representative will discuss financial obligations with patients and refer them to Financial Advocates when necessary. They must also be knowledgeable about government regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, Consent for Treatment, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Important Message from Medicare (IMM), Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice (MOON), Notice of Privacy Practices, Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire (MSPQ), and Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN), obtaining required signatures. Additionally, the role may involve scheduling appointments, coordinating cancellations/reschedules, and providing detailed information about test preparations and procedures. The Patient Service Representative is expected to create a welcoming environment, demonstrate excellent customer service, answer telephones, and assist patients with various needs like transportation and interpreter services. They will also monitor and work assigned electronic health record work queues.
