About The Position

The Patient Service Representative I is responsible for a variety of administrative and patient-facing duties within the Administration Department. This role involves managing patient check-in and check-out processes, scheduling appointments, handling patient information, processing payments, and ensuring the smooth operation of the front office. The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, trustworthiness in handling confidential information, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. The Patient Service Representative I will also support the organization's commitment to Patient Centered Medical Home principles and the "Triple Aim" of healthcare reform.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Legible handwriting.
  • Basic mathematic skills.
  • Ability to work with the public.
  • Ability to enter simple data and basic keyboarding knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate with patients and staff.
  • Trustworthy handling confidential information.
  • Able to work in an active and stressful environment.
  • Able to work with difficult patients from time to time.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Able to sit for long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of clerical experience.
  • One or more years of customer service experience.
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Answers telephones and schedules appointments.
  • Obtains and verifies patient information, including financial, family, and insurance details.
  • Updates patient information in electronic medical records.
  • Prepares patient charts for examinations.
  • Collects and secures payments at patient check-out.
  • Verifies outstanding balances and reminds patients of amounts owed.
  • Assists patients with balance owed questions by contacting billing assistance.
  • Balances daily transactions and ensures daily collections are secured.
  • Maintains order in the waiting area and coordinates with custodial staff as needed.
  • Follows HIPAA guidelines and Variety Care's Privacy policy and procedure.
  • Ensures office equipment is in good working order and reports any issues.
  • Accepts direction from the Practice Administrator or Physician.
  • Supports Variety Care’s accreditation as a Patient Centered Medical Home.
  • Works with staff to achieve the goals of the "Triple Aim" of healthcare reform.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
