This part-time role is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, preventing duplicate records, and ensuring patient safety through positive identification. The Patient Service Representative checks in and registers patients, verifies demographic and insurance information, and collects co-pays. They maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, understand insurance basics, and discuss financial obligations with patients. This position also involves adhering to government regulations and may include scheduling appointments, providing patient information, performing visit closures, and educating patients on the patient portal. The role requires creating a welcoming environment, answering phones, and maintaining positive public relations. Proactive communication with management regarding customer service and process improvement is expected. Additional duties may include e-scanning documents, managing faxes and in-basket messages, and assisting with orientation and training.
