This part-time position is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, which is the foundation of the patient medical record used by all healthcare team members. The role focuses on preventing duplicate medical records, ensuring patient safety through positive identification, and managing patient check-in and registration. This includes obtaining and verifying demographic, guarantor, and insurance information, as well as discussing and collecting co-pays and other patient financial responsibilities. Accurate registration information is crucial for timely payment and preventing billing issues. The role also requires maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, understanding various insurance plans and Advocate Health contracts, and discussing financial obligations with patients. Additionally, the Patient Service Representative may schedule appointments, coordinate cancellations and reschedules, and provide detailed information to patients regarding test preparations and arrival procedures. A key aspect of the role is creating a welcoming and professional environment through exceptional customer service, responding to requests, answering the telephone, and monitoring electronic health record work queues.
