About The Position

The Patient Service Representative I (bilingual required) is responsible for administrative duties within the department. This role involves receiving patients, obtaining necessary information, updating records, scheduling appointments, processing payments, and ensuring the waiting area is maintained. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Legible handwriting and basic mathematic skills.
  • Ability to work with the public.
  • Ability to perform simple data entry and basic keyboarding.
  • Ability to communicate with patients and staff.
  • Trustworthy handling of confidential information.
  • Ability to work in an active and stressful environment.
  • Ability to work with difficult patients.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of clerical experience.
  • One or more years of customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Answers telephones and schedules appointments.
  • Obtains patient information, including address, phone, insurance coverage, and DOB, and updates it in the electronic medical records.
  • Prepares charts for examination.
  • Collects and secures payments at patient check-out.
  • Verifies and reminds patients of outstanding balances.
  • Assists patients with balance owed questions by contacting billing assistance.
  • Balances daily transactions.
  • Ensures the waiting area is in good order.
  • Follows HIPAA guidelines and Variety Care Privacy policy and procedure.
  • Ensures office equipment is in good working order and notifies appropriate staff of any problems.
  • Accepts direction from the Practice Administrator or Physician.
  • Supports Variety Care’s accreditation as a Patient Centered Medical Home.
  • Works with staff to achieve the goals of the "Triple Aim" of healthcare reform.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
