The Patient Service Rep I is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, ensuring patient safety by preventing duplicate records, and verifying patient identity according to accrediting body mandates. This role involves checking in and registering patients, collecting accurate demographic and insurance information, and discussing/collecting co-pays and other patient financial responsibilities. The position requires knowledge of insurance basics, understanding of Advocate Health contracts, and the ability to discuss financial obligations with patients. Additionally, the role ensures compliance with government regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and others, by obtaining necessary signatures. The Patient Service Rep I may also schedule appointments, coordinate cancellations and reschedules, and provide detailed information about test preparations and facility directions. A key aspect of the role is creating a welcoming environment through exceptional customer service, responding to routine requests, answering telephones, and assisting patients with various needs like transportation and interpreter services. The position also involves monitoring and working assigned electronic health record work queues according to departmental processes.
