About The Position

The Patient Service-Access Representative for Wound Care is responsible for scheduling testing and procedures, obtaining necessary prior authorizations for tests, procedures, and medications, and scanning relevant documentation into patient charts. This role involves verifying insurance coverage, managing patient check-ins, answering phones, maintaining schedules and files, ordering supplies, ensuring efficient patient flow, initiating referrals, and participating in performance improvement initiatives. The position requires maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to all applicable laws, regulations, and policies. The representative must also support the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health (JMH) and comply with Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience with scheduling, coding or medical billing preferred.
  • Previous experience in a medical office preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules testing and procedures visits for patients.
  • Obtains all requested information/data, including completing prior authorizations for tests and procedures.
  • Assists with getting medication prior authorizations (PA) as needed.
  • Scans verification sheets, PA referrals, prior authorizations, and other referrals received from insurance companies.
  • Ensures that all testing, procedures, and medication requiring prior authorizations have the documentation scanned into the chart in a timely manner.
  • Works with insurance verification websites and makes phone calls to verify coverage for testing, procedures, and medications.
  • Performs routine administrative and clerical tasks to ensure smooth office operations.
  • Greets patients and completes the "check-in" process, including verification of patient demographics and insurance/payment information.
  • Answers phone calls, directs calls appropriately, and transmits messages.
  • Maintains patient schedules and patient reports.
  • Types correspondence and maintains department files.
  • Assists with the coordination of daily office operations.
  • Orders supplies.
  • Ensures timely and efficient patient flow.
  • Initiates patient referral process to other providers.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives and supports organizational strategic goals.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient, employee, and business information.
  • Participates in on-going training and attends required educational programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of JMH.
  • Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and JMH policies and procedures, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
