About The Position

The Patient Safety Manager leads process improvement efforts at Regions Hospital to reduce medical errors and prevent unintended adverse patient outcomes. In this role, you will provide leadership in proactive patient safety risk mitigation by conducting risk assessments, educating staff, identifying system-based causes of errors, and consulting with hospital management and staff. You will also be accountable for overseeing patient safety initiatives and risks from both internal and external sources. This includes collaborating with key stakeholders to develop action plans and establishing a systematic approach to prioritization. Success in this role requires a proactive mindset in identifying risks, educating leadership and staff, and mentoring and evaluating the organization’s patient safety culture. This position leads a small but highly impactful team of Patient Safety Specialists. It requires a quick-thinking, decisive, and hands-on leader with deep expertise in patient safety standards and a commitment to continuous improvement. The manager must demonstrate the ability to coordinate, lead, and manage patient safety programs and initiatives, with a proven track record of goal achievement and strong relationship-building to support safe practices across the hospital system. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing, hospital administration, health-care related field or quality management
  • 3-5 years of work experience in a hospital or clinical healthcare setting
  • 3-5 years of experience in project management in healthcare operations
  • Direct experience successfully leading organization-wide patient safety initiatives and programs
  • Previous experience with regulatory requirements, safety/risk/quality management
  • Ability to identify and collaborate with key stakeholders to develop clear action plans and oversee their implementation through completion
  • Monitor ongoing safety initiatives of the organization and identify performance risk
  • Successfully demonstrate ability to lead large scale projects and utilize performance improvement methods
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from all disciplines and all levels of the organization
  • Excellent critical thinking and facilitation skills
  • Exceptional capabilities in leading, collaborating and influencing teams and individuals to improve performance and compliance to standards, policies and best practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate complex information in a clear, concise and professional manner
  • Demonstrate ability to prepare presentation materials and present to senior leadership
  • Ability to successfully and independently use technology including ability to create templates, tables and tracking tools, PowerPoint, Visio event reporting software
  • Licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Minnesota if applicable.
