About The Position

Serve as a Patient Safety Companion on the Float Team, supporting a variety of Adult and Pediatric patient care units across the downtown campus. In this role, you'll provide continuous one-on-one observation for patients who require close monitoring to ensure their safety, comfort, and well-being while working alongside an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Our team offers flexible scheduling, exposure to diverse clinical environments, and additional float differential pay.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire.
  • Must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing. (Continuous)

  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous)
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous)
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous)
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous)
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous)
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. (Continuous)
  • Ability to work in a latex safe environment. (Continuous)
  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions. (Continuous)
  • Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. (Continuous)

Responsibilities

  • Provide continuous one-on-one observation for patients who require close monitoring to ensure their safety, comfort, and well-being.
  • Work alongside an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Monitor the patient closely at all times and never leave the patient alone to ensure patient safety.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living.
  • Perform other general patient care duties as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Notify the Registered Nurse immediately of any patient concerns.
  • Provide clerical support for the nurse’s station as assigned when not functioning as a Patient Safety Companion.
