About The Position

The Patient Safety Associate works collaboratively with the health care team to provide safety, companionship, and supportive care for patients who require additional monitoring or assistance. This role promotes quality patient care, comfort, and a safe environment under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The essential functions include recognizing patients, their family/designated care partners in providing safe, compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient's personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values. The associate will communicate with and support the interprofessional team, patient, family and designated care partners. This role involves providing one-to-one direct observation for the safety of the assigned patient, assisting the patient with designated care activities, reporting observations of changes in patient condition or behavior to appropriate staff, and completing required reports and documentation. This position requires providing service to pediatric through frail elderly populations and may be assigned to the role of virtual safety associates based on campus needs.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices associated with the rights and responsibilities of patients and caregivers.
  • Knowledge of the relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods, ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
  • Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
  • Knowledge of the process taken to restore and maintain essential physiological functions, and the ability to apply these processes in a patient care situation.
  • Understanding of the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail, ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to de-escalate patients who are agitated in a way that preserves patient dignity required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of Standard Precautions.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Previous related experience preferred
  • CPR certification, completion of Patient/Sitter Companion Program, and/or De-Escalation class preferred
  • Previous experience in the clinical setting preferred.

Responsibilities
