About The Position

The Patient Safety Assistant (PSA) will provide a safe environment for the patient under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Tasks include patient observation, assisting with feeding, bathing, toileting, ambulating, engaging in activities that the patient enjoys i.e. reading, playing cards, etc., and companionship. The PSA will maintain a commitment to the philosophy, mission, and values of the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS). The PSA working the monitor will recognize and report any changes observed to the RN per protocol. This is for a contingent midnight shift.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset (for Tele-Sitting only).
• Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient changes (for Tele-Sitting only).
• Ability to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff (for Tele-Sitting only).
• Basic computer operation skills (for Tele-Sitting only).
• Efficiency in multitasking (for Tele-Sitting only).
• Ability to prioritize simultaneous situations (for Tele-Sitting only).
• Successful completion of BLS Heartsaver during orientation.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe environment for the patient under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
• Patient observation.
• Assist with feeding, bathing, toileting, and ambulating.
• Engage in activities that the patient enjoys, such as reading or playing cards.
• Provide companionship to patients.
• Recognize and report any observed changes to the RN per protocol (for those working the monitor).
